Many people still remember when Whitney went bankrupt in the late 70's
(?).  Everyone that had an order pending became an "unsecured creditor." 
That basically meant they were screwed, that their money would be used to
pay "secured creditors" and they would receive neither a refund nor the
ordered parts.  There was some speculation that Whitney was deliberately
delaying shipping orders so as to increase these funds before the
bankruptcy.
