Had Miss Evans, a svelte blonde social studies teacher during my middle
school years, ca. 1958, driven a Nash Statesman, I am sure I would have
developed a predilection for Kelvinators; but instead she sported about
in a low-slung, green Austin Healey which would often show up in the
school yard parking area on Monday mornings with vinyl numbers taped to
the front wings. I particularly recall a set of red No. 7s. I was
definitely hooked.

Living at the edge of a college campus with fraternity houses in the
neighborhood there was no shortage of British cars. In 1962, I bought my
first automobile, an OEW '57 MGA roadster. There was no turning back. I
have owned some type of British vehicle (a string of Triumph Boonevilles
in the early 70s) since.

The current stable consists of a couple of MGAs, my good ol' '67 MGB-GT,
and an indeterminate number of parts cars (measured fractionally, of
course).

I never quite got over that green Healey or Ms. Evans' perfect teeth and
clear blue eyes. God, don't tell me she's a grandmother somewhere. She's
still out there running weekend rallyes with the wind blowing through her
blond hair, her exhaust playing a rhapsody as she deftly clicks through
the gears. Miss Evans, if you're out there, I love you and I am keeping
the faith!

I gotta go.
