Can you offer some help please.

I am currently installing the ignition electrics for my 1974 MGB.

Three questions:

1. The HT coil wires I noted when taking them off were -
a double wire (both white/black) on the negative terminal
a single white wire and a wire to a condensor on the positive terminal. Is
this correct ??

2. The distributor was wired as follows when viewed from above, numbers
indicate plugs;

               3
            4 1
               2

Is this as it should be ??

3. I have set the distributor by putting the engine at top dead center (as
marked on the flywheel) and then roughly pointing the rotor arm at the
number one positition as shown above..... This is very inacurate I assume
- is there a better way ? (I've heard Static timing is the way - how is it
done ?)

I've not started the car yet just spun it over without plugs to get the oil
pressure up. I hope to start it tonight so want to get the above items
checked out before I do.

Grateful for any guidance you can offer....

Kevin..... '74 MGB
