  Flooding is a real problem with even a slightly more powerful pump.
  See if your auto parts place carries "Carter" brand pumps.
  Look in the spec section in the back of their Carter tech book for a 
pusher-type pump of the lower output pressure.
  Carter makes one that mounts at the tank (hence;"pusher-type")and has 
the lower output pressure.
  I have one in my '78 Midget and it works great.
  Sorry I don't know the part number or I would give it to you.
