Nope. If you got the correct transmission in your car, the 'thingy' your
describing acts as the tensioner that keeps the shifter from rattling
from vibration. You would have to aquire the remote control casting from
a later transmission (not real hard) that has all the correct thread
holes. Then it would be fairly easy to retro-fit the reverse light.
