John,
I just went through this on my TC. Due to lack of funds I wasn't able to
buy new hubs and half shafts. I asked the list for advice and, at their
suggestion, used a two part epoxy like goo called JB Weld. Worked like a
charm!

I seperated the hub from the shaft, mixed equal parts of the epoxy together,
smeared an ample quantity on to the splines in the hub, reassembled and
waited 24 hours, then reinstalled. The rear end clunk that had plagued me
since I bought the car is gone. The whole rear end feels better and after
two weeks and 50-75 miles (it's been raing here, BIG TIME!) it's still
great. For $6 for the JB Weld it's worth a try!
