I thought id share the weekends travails - despite working flat-out every
evening last week to get my GT ready for Sundays Long Island rally/pool
party the project hit a roadblock Friday night which took all of saturday
to clear!!
As previously mentioned i am installing a new radio/cd player and knowing
the space constraints in the console had opted for the shortest i could
find (a Denon)
The "dry-fit" had looked good but when i came to go the whole way, two
things happened
1) stupid stupid stupid - I left the battery connected and shorted out
three wires - frankly it was nearly fire-extinguisher time but i got away
with three hours of wire replacement. it reminds you that the battery
MUST be disconnected when buggering about woth Lucas technology
2)All wires connected, neatly regrouped/tied/insulated, sliding neatly
through the aperture- guess what? - about 1/4" too bloody long...the back
of the unot was fouling the elbow joints on the ducts to the screen
vents. No amount of twisting, pulling, pushing would give a satisfactory
result so the time came for some innovation -
and its a good one!

the air to the screen comes from the heater thru two tubes and a plate
into the elbows behind the radio - thence by flexi tubes to the vents. I
removed the elbow joints, plate and tubes, cut two holes in the sides of
the heater box for the elbows to relocate into, connected thru the heater
box to the heater with some scrap flexi hose then reconnected the vents
to the elbows with the original hoses. The plate was "blanked" with a
scrap of sheet metal and a few rivets and reinstalled - presto - about an
inch of extra clearance! - quite proud of that one!- hope it may be of
use to someone else

the sad part was however that on sunday i had to go to the excellent Long
Island club rally/pool party in a jeep! however it was a fine do (im sure
DD will give a report) and nobody made too much fun of me!!!!!
