You'll probably get a more scientific answer, Greyson, but...

I was driving the MGA last week and had a similar experience. It was a
no-fuel problem. I was able to nurse Lil' Darlin' into a curb market/gas
station and she finally sputtered herself into silence. Hmmm... bad miss,
too. And what's that rapping noise?

Before she died, I ran back and forth listening to the engine miss and to
the rapping. I decided the rapping was the fuel pump. I didn't know what
the awful miss was in the engine.

I was able to remain calm (but only after "Oh no! I've blown the engine!!"
went through my mind) and to approach the problem scientifically. So, I
decided to fill the gas tank before any more unacceptable scenarios came to
mind. She took 12.43 gallons. (Oh, I forgot to mention that I mentally
record my mileage...no fuel gauge. It jitters upon start up, then lays down
for the rest of the ride.)

I was lucky...one in that nothing was actually wrong with the car (they do
need fuel), and two that I could see the station sign across the interstate
and was able to nurse Darlin' into it. (I was in the boonies at the time!)
I said my "thank you" prayer when she started right up, and proceeded home.

Are you sure there's gas in the tank? And is the fuel pump suppling same to
both carbs?

Good luck! Hope your putt-putt is as easy to solve as mine was...

Carol

As you approach life's curves, never brake and always leave skid marks!
