Those who have been following my misadventures know that I was having
problems with a sticky float needle valve, and that I was planning to
replace it with a grose jet. Before I get too far I will give you the
stats - 79B w/ Zenith 175 CD-2 carb. I got the grose jet, and I had the
foresight to order a carb rebuild kit and carb tool in case there were any
problems. When I pulled the float chamber off the gasket disintegrated.
This made me think that I might want to put that carb rebuild kit to use
when it arrives, so since I had the carb on the coffee table and it
wasn't going back under the hood untill I at least replaced the gasket, I
started taking it apart and cleaning things up. Now, besides my
roommates wanting the carburettor off the coffee table (no Jeff Foxworthy
jokes here please) I have a few dilema's...

1. I have no experience with carburettors, but I'm pretty confident that
I can take it apart, and put it back together with relatively few pieces
left over and make it work. Does anybody want to talk me out of it?

2. I'm planning to follow the Haynes manual and replace everything that
comes in the rebuild kit. Are there any tips, subtleties, no-nos, etc.?
Anything else I should replace? Any tips on how to know when it's time
to replace any specific parts?

3. Are there any other resources I will need?

Thanks,

Jamey Harris
