Nope ... seperate numbering systems ... from Clausager's "Original MGB" ...

Prefix Eng Numbers Car Numbers Dates
18V-672-Z-L 101 to 38094 294251-360069 Aug 72 - Sept 74
18V-673-Z-L 101 to 6550 294251-360069 Aug 72 - Sept 74 w/OD
18V-836-Z-L 101 to 5401 360301-367818 Sept 74 - Dec 74
18V-837-Z-L 101 to 1504 360301-367818 Sept 74 - Dec 74 w/OD

... as you can see the same range of car numbers appears for both the
standard and overdrive range of engine numbers ... so there isn't really
any direct correlation between car and engine number, but there is a
correlation between car number and the engine prefix.

I'm not certain, but I think that if you the BMIHT your car number, and some
cash, they can provide the engine number along with other production info
... I know that the engine numbers are available for the 'A', but I think that
they are for the 'B' and I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong ...
