Hello, Scott. If the panel is rusting out from the backside, then the
rusted area is much larger than the size of the hole. How much do you want
to develop bodywork skills yourself? If you do, you have to start
somewhere, and fixing a hole like this is as good a place as any. Use
progressively larger drill bits to drill the edges of the hole back to
sound metal Inject some Waxoyl, if you have any, into the blind cavity to
slow down future rusting. Take a small piece of screen wire with a thread
tied to the center of it and stuff it in the hole, using the thread to pull
it up against the backside of the panel. Now you're ready to fill the hole
with Bondo, using the screen as backing. Sand the patch smooth, apply some
metal prep, prime and paint.
