It's not economically feasible. If you sold your car, added a couple more grand,
and bought a chrome bumper, you would be much better off.

Generally not. But there are a number of things that could be wrong. One of the
better axioms is "When you suspect carbueration problems, fix the carbueration
problems last." To wit: My silly TR6 had a major off-idle/mid-range stumble. 
Turns
out the vacuum diaphragm in the distributor was shot. This fix, plus a little
extra advance over stock, fixed a multitude of driveability problems.
