1275's don't have removable tappet covers on the side of the block. 948's and
1098's do.

Fellow Listers,
How do I tell a 1275 from a 1098 engine other than the number plates by
the left front engine mount and the one above the distributor? I have a
chance to pick up a couple of "1275's". One engine is a basket case, hot
tanked, polished crank and new pistons needing assembly. The other is
slightly modified and can be run on a test stand where it sounds very
strong(open exhaust). My worry is the seller owns a Bugeye with a very
hot Mincomp A+ 1275 and these spare engines may have been his original
and one he thought he could rebuild himself.
