George,

These figures are from the "Standard Catalog of Imported Cars
1946-1990", so they don't include pre-war. They also don't include any
cars privately imported (a fairly common practice in the "old days").
Supposedly the figures are official import quantities/sales figures in
the U.S. Some of the numbers are by Model, but most are by year, and
include all models for that year. Here goes.....

MG TC - 2001
MG TD - 23,488
1954 - 3454
1955 - 3001
1956 - 6044
1957 - 13,496
1958 - no figure given
1959 - 17,693
1960 - 13,069
1962 - 9319
1963 - 21,270
1964 - 24,128
1965 - 22,326
1966 - 21,709
1967 - 22,387
1968 - 17,834
1969 - 22,114
1970 - 32,020
1971 - 31,848
1972 - 31,584
1973 - 31,991
1974 - 25,015
1975 - 27,946
1976 - 28,436
1977 - 34,794
1978 MG Midgets - 9385 MGB - 17,271
1979 MG Midgets - 9165 MGB - 16,860
1980 - no figure given

It says there were 300,274 MGBs alone sold in the U.S. You'll have to
add the figures yourself for a total of all MGs. I don't think you'll
be too far off without the pre-war cars, because I don't believe there
were very many MGs in the U.S. at that time. Don't know why there are
no figures for '58 and '80 though. If I were you, I'd add up the above
and add 60,000 to the figure to cover private imports, pre-war, and '58
& '80 - you'll probably come out pretty close.

How many are left now? NOT ENOUGH!

Don't assume that because you have found one problem, you have found the
ONLY problem.
