Sounds like air in the lines to me, have you bled them?

Hi List.
Today I installed new front brake pads on my 76 B after discovering that
the old ones were literally bare. The new ones are about 1/4" thicker.
However, the pedal feels worse now than before. It goes in a lot on the
first pump, and the second pump of the pedal feels good. Did I do
something wrong?? (I've successfully installed pads on a different car
before). The brakes are also harder to lock up now than before.
