Hi Andy,
  The current catalogue from Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies says about its
header wrap, "Our 1/16" thick material will not degrade the header pipes
nearly as fast as 1/8" material (all header wraps contribute to shorter
header life due to the intense heat within the wrap)."  
  That's what they say, and they sell the stuff.
