Answering my own question I had very good results with a
hard pink eraser for the flat metal part of the spring. I was
having trouble with the contact pins in the switch housing because
there was not much room. My solution was to take a number 2 pencil
and using a pair of cutters, cut off the end about 4 inches down from
the eraser. I then took the 4 inch portion with the eraser and
mounted in in my old 3/8" drill (no need for the 1/2" Dewalt here)
and then spun up the eraser and polished the contact pins. It worked
very quickly and very nicely. I could see my face in the the contacts :-)
Now my hazards flash away, good as new.
One other question, does anyone coat the contacts with anything to
prevent corrosion. I was thinking would something like white grease would
be good for this, or is that a bad idea. The same for the spade
connectors in the car. I know for aluminum wire there is a product
that prevent oxidation. Would that be good for the spade connectors.
Any ideas.
