The crankcase pressure could be excessive due to worn rings, but it could
be that your crankcase ventilation is not functioning. A clogged crankcase
ventilation will result in oil pushing out of the front/rear main seal, oil
dipstick tube, and/or the valve cover. On your 74 the front tappet cover
vents the crankcase to the dual carbs. The hose to the carbs may be
clogged or crimped closed giving the crankcase pressure no place to vent.
