Overheard recently..." However, the 2.8L V6 engine in question can be
junkyarded from 80s
camaros. These are cars that are very often crashed, and getting a low
mileage one is quite possible. As well, demand is low since most of
the camaro crowd wants the V8 engine anyways.

Being in the auto salvage industry, both in Canada and in the states,
let me tell you that you are mistaken if you think low mileage 2.8L
chevy motors are plentiful. They are getting very rare, to the point
where I can buy S10 pickups and blazers with bad 2.8L for under $200
every day of the week. Just brought in two perfect trucks, both bad
motors. The other problem with 2.8L is that they have an odd bell
housing pattern that does not interchange with other GM engines. This
leaves you few choices when it comes to transmissions. The rare S10 5
speed which is always hard top find. The TH200 from the Camaro that is
only 3 speed, or the TH700R4 which is notorious for getting torn up.

If you were going to go with a V6, the better choice would be the 3.8L
Buick motor that the Rover V6 is based on. It uses the
Buick-Olds-Pontiac bolt pattern on the tranny, giving you alot of
choices, and by bolting on the right heads (4.1L V6) you will be a drag
strip hero. The only draw back I see is that all of these motors are 10
years old, and are not in production anymore, so a rebuild will required
either way you go.

Hope this is food for thought, Good Luck

PS. My dream car is a 360 Mopar powered, 4 spd manual trans MGB, but I
am trying to get better ventilation in my shop!:-)
