The hydraulics had failed and the brakes were stuck tighter than ticks on a
hound dog, so I pulled the drums and removed the shoes before proceeding,
but, by Grab, you're right on that harmonic resonance business. Upon
arriving home I found that this sympathetic vibration phenomenon had
actually accelerated the oxidation process causing rust holes to appear in
an otherwise perfectly sound 40-year-old floor pan.
I'm sure I'll never pull another driveshaft for towing purposes.
