Do you have dual SU's?

Before I really adjusted and balanced my carbs, my engine would
bounce about two inches from side to side.  It was evident at idle
by watching the gear shift knob bouncing around.

I took my trusty uni-syn and set the air flow, which smoothed the
idle out.  Of course, I never noticed the car 'leaning' when I
stepped on the gas, but then again I never looked.

It could very well be bad motor mounts if your carbs check out as
balanced.
