Just a guess but I think they are to stop your axle from going down to
far when you jump off of dirt mounds a la 'Dukes of Hazard.' :0 (Maybe
just dips in the road.) Mine were pretty hammer so I replaced them
this summer. They are cheap and easy to replace.
