Jim,
R134 systems that are retrofited do not, in my experience, get new hoses
UNLESS the old ones are leaking.  Why you ask?  Simple the ester oil when
mixed with the mineral oil of the R-12 system provides a very effective
barrier.  I would however remember the mechanics motto when trying to bring
back a dormant system "if in doubt change it out."
