My daily driver (yes I admit is is a 10 year old Skoda) with is normally
reserved for this time of year because of the salt on the roads has finally
succomed to lack of love and attention. The alloy wheels (true) have now
corroded so much it is difficult to keep any kind of pressure in the tyres
for more than a day or so. The dizzy is playing up again (after total
failure on the M25 this time last year).
The decision has been made to get rid of it - just filing the tank up
doubles the value of the car.

The MGBGT which is intended as the replacement has just had a total rebuild
with extra Waxoyl and underseal to try to cope with the ravages of winter.
At the moment it is being kept for shorter journeys because despite the
rebuild the engine is burning too much oil. I thought that the smoke at
first (blue) was caused by the thin running in oil passing around the bores
etc as everthing bedded in. 500 miles later a after the 20-50 has been in
the engine is still puffing out blue smoke. This doesn't really manefest on
journeys under 10 miles or a motorway run. It looks like the head will have
to come off next week - I fear dodgy rings on one and two. I'm tempted to
see if I can get a 'Diesel Turbo' sticker/motif to affix to the tailgate -
this way the smog police (new over here with instant fines) may turn a blind
eye to all the smoke? - MGBGT 'DT' - probably won't fool them....;-)

For those longer journeys the little '71 Midget has been doing stirling
service (I will regret saying this now). I Just keep an extra close eye on
everything every day. The main problem is still the salt. The little car has
a good old hosedown religiously twice a week depending on how wet it's been.
After driving the Midget so much over the last 3 weeks you tend to forget
the  comforts of more modern cars. I even put the hard top on (to avoid
washing the colour out of the double duck rag top) and wash surprised to
find an increase in wind noise at any speed over 50mph. The winter jobs
reserved for this little car are going to have to happen in the spring by
the look of it.

Fingers cross and actually quite enjoying it.

.....even when it's about 50 degrees outside but still sunny.  Put the top
down and bundle up :)  I've found that it's quieter at 70 in 4th with the
top
down than with the top up, for some strange reason.
