4 years ago, I was really in the market to get a car as I had turned 15
and wanted to begin my new adventure with automobiles. My friend just 4
houses up the street had a Burnt Orange 72' B in his garage that had
been sitting there for some 8 or so years collecting dust and being used
for a gun rack. All of our friends thought the car looked extremely
cool over the years and I got on this thing with my friends that it was
cool to restore cool old looking cars. So, I had my father ask my
friend's dad what he'd sell it for. He conferred with his wife and she
REALLY wanted to get rid of it to make room in the garage for their
other cars. They both agreed to $200 dollars and my dad forked over the
cash immediately as he had always dreamed of having an MG. We wheeled
the car out of the garage and rolled it down the street a half block and
excitedly began to tear into it. The amazing thing about this whole
deal is the condition in which we got the car. The body was nearly
perfect with a small dent in the door and absolutely zero rust. The
tires were still full of air after 8 years, which was amazing. The
engine had just been rebuilt thoroughly. The radiator had been redone
as well. The original owner later told us that he had spent nearly 3
thousand on the car and about a month later he parked it. My father and
I put some fuel in the car and it started right up and ran like a dream,
except for it needed to have some obvious things replaced like the
points and plugs and other things that need to be replaced after sitting
that long. Our neighbor had said the transmission went out and that's
why he parked it. My father, began testing and found the transmission
and clutch was fine. The only problem was the master clutch cylinder
had been honed too many times and had leeked out all the fluid. We
replaced it with a new kit and voila! The car screamed up and down the
street. Since then we've had basically everything on the body replaced
and had it repainted. The car is awesome!!
