I have the same prob with my 59 A.  I always put it in Nuetral and let the 
clutch out.  It is still hard to start and I also find my battery flat all the 
time.  Seems to be losing battery power somewhere.

One other thing to keep in mind is to always start the car in neutral with
the clutch out.
