Ford Mustang 5.0??

Seriously Bob, without spending cubic dollars you will still be
driving a relatively low powered car. Even in their hey-day the B was not
high on power. Nowadays, most sports sedans will run rings around a B in
normal driving. The difference is that driving the B is fun. Slow, but
fun.

Work with what you have. Make sure that all the bits are working
together properly. Chances are a good mechanic with access to a dyno could
work wonders with the power and drivability of your car. Given time and
work, you could too. Most cars are only producing 75% of their possible
output, due to poor tuning.
Bolt on go-fast bits are not the answer to drivability and power.
Attention to detail is.

Getting down off soapbox.

Kelvin. Whose idea of fast requires light weight, and big engine.
