The drip from the water pump may be tolerable if you do short journeys and
always check before starting. BEWARE REMOVING RADIATOR CAP WHEN HOT. Also be
aware that as the engine heats up and the cooling system pressurizes the
drip will get faster!!
Not ideal, I would only choose to do this to get home. It is fine though if
you don't let the water level drop too far.
To remove the thermostat housing try heating it. Apart from the heat
possibly helping to loosen it, the aluminium alloy will expand three times
as fast as the steel stud and so will definitely aid removal (wriggle it off
while still hot).
