Despite the "tech guys" comments, the product should be able to
handle most engine environmental situations. Hot antifreeze, on relatively
fresh paint is kinda tough to deal with and not something that we have much
experience with. It's not the kind of situation that would normally elicit
a customer warning. The "tech guy" tends to get somewhat blase after
dealing with the multitude of weird calls 30 year old cars entail. We are
following through documented failures at an increasing rate as OE suppliers
dry up. A complaint of paint not holding up under an anti-freeze bath,
although extremely important to your chances of winning a concours and being
happy, kind of fades next to an engine that has blown up after being built
with $2000 worth of components. Please have patience with us as we do the
best we can to supply parts, advice and assistance.
The engine in question dropped a valve head and destroyed a cross
flow alloy head. The question is "why"?
Just as an aside, I remember the splatter trunk paint that was being
sold by a couple of companies. There was no mention that the paint was not
waterproof. My friend who painted the entire interior of his Midget race
car found out the first time the car was caught outside in a downpour. I
believe the advertising does now include the disclaimer that a clear coat
must be used.
