I bought my first MGB back in 1987 when I was 17. It was an $800 1970 MGB.
The car was not insured for loss or damage, but I had full coverage on liabilty
etc....even so the insurance cost me more than the car. I was not subsidised
by my parents, except for the use of their garage for short periods of time in
the winter.
My reasoning for this is such. In the unfortunate situation where the car were
a complete wreck, I would hope it wasnt my fault, and I would get the cars
value out of the other bore bloke (save those reciepts and get the car
appraised). Also other damage not so serious (fender benders etccc) I could
fix myself. My parents tought me that driving is a privilege not a right, and
if I drove so poorly that my car was destroyed I obviously wasnt ready for
driving.
These cars take work to own and keep running. In my eyes it is a rite of
passage, not for the weak of heart, or slim of charecter. (a healthy checkbook
doesnt hurt). If it were easy everyone would do it.
The insurance situation is not much different at a young age the most expensive
part is not insuring the car, but the youngster. My insurance was the same as
all my frinds and we drove old Vega's pontiacs, and Chevy Luv pickup trucks too.
If the youngsters today (i may still be one of them at 28) dont have the drive
to pay the insurance, the will to learn, or the courage to commit to it, than
they shouldnt get or be given an LBC.
This is my soapbox.
As far as the LBC week, it sounds OK, but in my life every day is LBC day, and
try to encourage everybody about how cool and easy to maintain my MGB is.
Drive it like you want it.

p.s.s as a note of irony my own 68 MGB has not started in 2 years. Serious
rebuild. But my 66 BSA is a daily rider.
