Dear MG List,

I've justr purchased a 1958 MGA. It apears to have an non-MG 1500 B Series
engine with serial # BP15Mxxxxx. I understand that the M is a G on MG
engines. Also there's no tach drive.

Any ideas on what this is from, M for Morris?

I'm also puzzled by the oil filter assembly. There is no oil pressure feed
tube from the rear of the block to the "head" of the oil filter housing as
with every other MGA I've seen. The oil filter cannister is essentially the
same as the bottom part on an MGA and it screws directly to the block with
no "head assembly" in between. The large bolt is drilled down it's centre
and the only way I can see oil getting to the centre of the filter is
through a small hole into the side of this bolt. Seems odd to me! Has
anyone seen this? The hole where the oil feed pipe usually exits the block
is used by the oil pressure guage and the usual oil pressure guage feed is
blanked off.

Any information on this would be appreciated.
