I am 20 years old and have been driving my 71 B since the day I turned
sixteen. It turns a lot of heads, especially in a college town, everyone
who has ever seen it loves it, but I think that most people my age are
scared to death of old cars. Many of my friends can't even change oil or
a flat, let alone to do the points on the side of the road or anything
else that a 30 year old car can do. If MG comes back to the states I will
be on the list for one, we need cars that speak to sportscar people before
everyone forgets why you drive them. The new MGs and Healys may not be
pure bread and may not be as nice, or whatever, as the old ones but it is
keeping the ideal alive for a generation who are afraid to lift the
bonnet. Are you really surprised that these kids aren't into old cars,
the next time you look under the hood of a modern car, try and identify
all the basic parts of the engine, then pretend that this is your first
car and you are trying to do this, it is scary as hell!! I don't think
that we will ever recapture the flavor that our cars had when they were
new, and the character that they have now, but we need to maintain the
breeds so that the world doesn't forget what twisty roads are really for.
