If you feel you must use some type of sealant,,,
use a coating of Permatex spray on coper gasket sealant.
The copper pariticles will fill any minor voids and blemishes
in the surfaces of the head and gasket.
It doesn't 'glue' the head on so everything still comes apart easily.
Follow the directions.
I've used it on my manifold gaskets for years without fail.
(even on re-used old gaskets)

I'd go ahead and pull the head and remove the sillycone. The stuff won't react
all that well to hot compression chamber gases and all of the hot fluid too.
Besides, even if the engine did run, I wouldn't be able to sleep wondering
when or if it was going to come apart.
