Rough running at idle speed

My 67 MGB Roadster, as it came to me, is fitted with single a Weber downdraft
carb. It says "Made in Spain" on the side, and I've been led to believe that
it may be a cheaper "knock-off" of the more famous Weber carb.

In any event, when the car is under about 1500 RPM it runs very rough, to the
point of stalling when it's cold (regardless of choke position). As I apprach
stop signs, traffic, etc. I've taken to throwing the car in neutral, using my
clutch foot to apply the brakes and keeping my right foot on the gas to keep
the revs up to keep from stalling! (how many of you know that from personal
experience!)

I have a set of SU's from my parts car that I intend to rebuild and install,
but that's a winter project, and I'd like it to run a bit better for now. Is
there a solution other than running up the idle speed to 1500?

TIA
