        What happens is you end up with a useless air pump very soon.  Pull
the pump and pack it away in a bag with some desicant.  A disconnected smog
pump will tend to seize up very quickly, (even in Colorado).  Probably
condensation on the inner aluminium wear surface, or it could be dirt chunks
getting knocked about.  I don't know the specific causes, but I have seen a
number that seized up after being disconnected for a short time.
