Thanks to all who offered advice on drilling through a welded-shut
stud hole. I was intrigued by the suggestion to use a car battery and
the carbon rod from a D-cell to ``spot-anneal'' the area, but decided
to try the less-exciting advice first: Instead of jumping from a
1/4-inch bit to a 5/16, which wasn't working, why not try a 9/32 bit
in-between? It seemed too easy, but it worked.
