Clutch pedal spring

Hello list,
 I seem to have developed a bad habit of breaking the litle spring that helps 
to hold the clutch pedal out at its furthest. My problem is that my foot is too 
large (size 13US) and with my heel on the floor hits the spring. I have broken 
the spring twice in the past few months. Is this something that I can just keep 
disconnected and not worry abbout, or should I try to find a fix for it. Maybe 
drill a hole further up on the pedal.
