The same reason that you replace the brakes on both sides at the same
time.  You want your handling to be symmetrical lest the car develope 
an surprising tendancy to change direction in an unpredictable fashion
at inopportune times.

For example, let's say that you are fumbling for a Frank Zappa tape
and hit a cat. If your handling is imbalanced, you could end up swerving
into oncoming traffic.
