Well....In my continuing saga to slowly rebuild my 71'B Roadster I decided
to pull out the drivers seat to fix it. (every time I hit a large bump the
muffler would push the floorboard into the seat and thus into me) I knew
the PO did some sort of floor pan replacement, but from the little time I
have spent looking at the bottom I knew it was a half-ass job. So Last
evening the seat was pulled and then the carpet carefully removed. I found
a piece of thin sheet metal had been screwed on top of the original floor.
So i did what any curious person would do. Yup I removed the sheet metal,
and discovered the PO left the partially rusted floor there. From the
little time poking around and an hour looking at the Moss and VB catalog,
It appears that I will need the following: Parts listed from Moss page 63
Sill (458-280)
Inner Panel (457-170)
Side member bottom (458-440)
Cross member (half of full????)
Floor pans.
The rocker panels are in very good shape no rust or holes on the outside
etc.
In everyones opinion/experience what is the best way to 'fix' my problem,
and since I am not familiar with doing this sort of work, how are all the
parts connected? welded? or bolted? And where should I start? (After tin
snipping/cutting the old floors out.)
Can Sills/cross members be repaired/replaced with the body of the car
intact and on top or does it have to be stripped to a frame?
