I think this is a silly question, but I haven't had much to say lately so
I think I'll burn up some bandwidth. Recently I replaced my resonator,
and as some may remember my car has only a resonator, no muffler; well, it
was a bit too loud so I put a slip in silencer in it to appease the noise
police. Between the combination of the new exhaust creation and the
leaning out of my mixture (finally tuned to altitude after only three
years) I run out of steam at about 5500 RPM. The car has always loved to
rev and it was tuned perfectly to sea level. I am now at about 6000' and
I took 6 (I think) flats out of the jets. The tuning using the engine
speed change when depressing the plunger on opposite carb procedure has
never worked so I more or less blindly leaned the mixture out. This has
solved my hot start/idle problems and has doubled my gas mileage but I
think I may have gone a bit too far. I don't feel like the engine is
being choked by a restrictive exhaust, because I experienced that during
my bastardization of the exhaust.

Is it reasonable to assume that if the mixture is too lean the car will
not be able to rev at high RPM, and will lack all power at high RPM?
