I removed seats for the first time today to refurbish them and under the
driver seat only is a momentary contact switch, about 2 or 3 inches in
diameter, loose, made of white plastic, with a few inches of wires that
disappear into the floorboard. It's stamped "Made in England" so I'm
guessing it's original equipment.

Is this supposed to insert into the webbing of the seat so as to detect
when the driver is seated? Is it part of the ignition protection system
(so that you can only start the car when it's depressed)? I think I tried
starting the car without it and had no problem. What's it for, and what
should I do with it?

I can get a picture if needed, but hopefully someone already knows what I'm
referring to...

Thanks...
