Finally got around to stripping the passenger side seat from my '71 B. Wire
wheeled off all the old paint and rust, primed and painted with 2 coats
gloss black enamel. Dug out the reupholstering kit I bought last winter to
see what I am getting into. I am replacing everything (foams, covers,
webbing), and this kit came complete with all the items I need. I noticed
the new kit supplies seat webbings, and the original seat came with a
diaphragm. The webbing has 2 hooks fore and aft, and 4 along each side. The
seat frame has 2 holes for the front and back, but only 2 holes for each
side. Do I have to drill new holes to accommodate the other hooks, or was I
given the wrong webbings? I also noticed that adhesive was used on the old
seat to hold to foams to the frame, and the seat covers to the foams in a
few places. I purchased some 3M General Trim Adhesive (08088) for this
purpose, and to later use for carpet installation. Is this the right stuff
to use for the seats? Also, can the black trim clips which hold the edges of
the seat cover to the frame be re-used, or do I need to buy new ones?
Lastly, I need to replace the cardboard backboard on the seat. The old one
is shaped to fit the opening. Is there a good way to shape the new cardboard
in a similar fashion (wetting it?)? I have Porter's DIY book, but no other
instructions were supplied with the kit. Any other good references I should
have? TIA.
