I'd think I'd want a new set after nearly 9 years.  Besides tread wear, 
there are other changes (chemical, etc) that take place over time, 
particularly if they are starting to get brittle.  You should get them off 
the car and replace them with a good set of tires, maybe some nice 
Firestone's. :)
