FWIW I have always done mine in reverse. I find it is easier to do if I push
the car backwards in 4th so that I can watch the valves. You just have to
remember to read to order backwards (if you are following a book) or use the
rule of nine. I also have always done this in a garage. I just push the car
backwards, and when I run out of garage I take it out of gear and push it
forward then put it back in gear. I have gone the wrench on the crank method
as well and I think they are about the same hassle, although I prefer pushing
the whole car to just turning the crank.
