Hi Frank,
    Sorry to hear of your frustration.  It is "always something".   I ran
into this same problem this summer.   One caliper had the correct plug in
it, and the other one  acutually had another bleeder in it.  I'm sure that
would have worked fine but I was fortunate enough to have my old calipers
still so I just switched over.  If my memory serves me right the plugs did
have the pointed, beveled end to them, but I don't know if you can use any
plug with a sealer or teflon tape or not ( probably not a good idea because
of the high pressure here).
    If you can't find a pointed plug you can always find a bleeder screw to
use from your local parts depot.   Just remember which one is the active
bleeder screw.
    I hate when they screw up our master plans like this.
