Does anybody know how to check if a
camshaft is good or not ? I have 2 different
Piper cams which I want to check before
I install them in a my engine. None of
the lobes appear to have any marks but
the cam followers for #1 cylinder were
badly galled.

I am assuming that the camshaft is of a harder
metal than the cam followers and as such the
followers will be damaged/worn before the
camshaft.

If I measure each of the cam lobes (from the
bottom of the base circle to the lobe center) and
they are all equal (within reason), can I determine
that the camshaft is still useable ?
