Edwin:

As your gauge is mechanical and is reading but off to some
extent, you can re-calibrate it yourself.

Questions

1) Were you able to remove the pressure cap without scalding
yourself?  Usually if the temp on an engine is high you can't
take the cap off without it boiling out.

2) Can you remove the temperature sensor bulb from the thermostat
housing?

If so you can set the temp gauge yourself.

1)  Remove temp sensor bulb from the thermostat housing.

2)  Remove the U clamp holding gauge to the dash.

3)  Twist of the chrome bezel of the gauge and remove the glass. 
There are tabs and notches that line up on the back.  If
necessary pull the guage out a bit to see.

4)  Pry off the gauge needle.  Use two popcicle sticks on each
side, or make up a forked wedge from wood like a ball joint
pickle fork.

5)  Put temp bulb and accurate thermometer in an electric
percolator coffee pot with water.

6)  Heat the pot to 180 degrees as shown on the thermometer and
unplug pot.  Or use any temp at which you think the engine is
running.

7)  Replace the needle on the gauge to read 180.

8)  Re-assemble everything.

Gauge will now be accurate at set temperature and progressively
off the further it is from the set temp.
