Some years ago I picked up a little trick for "repairing" the original bullet
connectors that were spoiled by corrosion. Get some of that spray-on chrome
cleaner: the kind that smells sour (phosphoric acid) like Naval Jelly. If you
can't find it, use Naval Jelly and a pack of Q-Tips (real cotton, not
polyester).
If the connectors are otherwise in decent condition, but aren't making good
contact (as evidenced by the rise in temperature), squirt some chrome cleaner,
or
swab with the Q-Tip dipped into Naval Jelly, onto the metal parts of the
connector. Wait a few minutes then rinse in fresh water. This method nearly
always works. If you are afraid that a connector will get corroded again by road
spray, you can coat both sides with white lithium grease that is waterproof, but
electrically friendly.--
