You could, but then it would be a larger size and perhaps the bolt/stud
won't go through the hole in the other part.

A much better solution is to use a thread insert, or repair, such as
Helicoil.  The fastener then still stays the same size as original.  It
also eliminates having someone trying to put the now incorrect size bolt
into the wrong position and ruining another thread.
