Sorry to hear about the fire.  Not fun.  While I think your first question 
has been answered, you might consider the ignition source.  I suggest that 
perhaps you were burning a bearing in the wheel.   That can get red hot, and 
might be why the brake fluid got loose.  Of course, that would seem pretty 
far down on your list of worries now, but give it some thought.
